Body Shaming Is Wrong Full Stop!

Recently, while on holiday with my partner and enjoying the sun and the hotel pool, my partner leaned over and said, “while we were walking at the pool-side, I couldn’t help but overhear and lip read the expressions of some of the mostly young ladies who were checking you out”.

Comments ranged for “Skinny Bitch”, “Fake”, “Anorexic”, “Kept Women” etc.

After he mentioned this, I started looking back at some of the shamers and to my surprise and disappointment, he was right!!

Body shaming is wrong full stop!

Celine Dion who is constantly being body shamed and recently quoted this:

“I take what’s good for me. I leave behind what is not good for me. I let my management take care of that, and if it hurts anyone, they will take care of that. And I need to focus on what’s right for me, how I feel.”

It almost seems that people I have encountered feel they have the God given right come up and me and say to me with a concerned look on their face,,, “why don’t you eat more”,,, “are you anorexic”,,, “you must be a well-kept women” , “are you addicted to exercise”, “I wouldn’t want to be like you,, your way too thin”!

Just imagine if I went up to those shamers and said,,, ”your too fat, how do you fly ,,, your obese, don’t you have any pride?,,, your type is going to drain the National Health Service in this country”. Exactly!

I’m a 50-year-old, highly active, mother of three beautiful children who happens to eat healthy, doesn’t smoke, drinks moderately, goes on long walks with the dog each day and is in the gym three times a week after dropping off my kids for school.

It’s all about health and refer to the science and not the body shaming!

I started The Jackie Life as a platform to encourage and inspire mature women to address issues we face today such as health & fitness and also share some of life’s basics in today’s busy world.

  1. Jackie, in Italy we say “Ogni qualvolta parleranno alle spalle di te, ricorda che la tua superiorità viene così riconosciuta.” in English sounds “Whenever they speak behind you, remember your superiority is thus recognized.”
